YOUR FIRST CLASS AT RISE

New to Pilates? We’ve got you.

Walking into your first Pilates class can feel a little intimidating. There are springs and straps. The carriage moves. You might hear a few words you've never heard before.

That's completely normal.

Your instructor will introduce you to the Reformer, explain how to set up your equipment and guide you through the movements throughout class. You don't need to memorize anything or keep up with anyone else in the room.

Just come as you are.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a full-body practice designed to build strength, improve mobility and flexibility, develop balance and create greater awareness of how your body moves.

The practice combines controlled, intentional movement with concentrated breathing. While Pilates is known for its focus on core strength, exercises engage the entire body and can be adapted to different experience levels, bodies and goals.

At RISE, our group classes use the Reformer, which is a specialized piece of Pilates equipment that uses springs, resistance and a moving carriage to support and challenge your movement.

The result is a practice that can grow with you as you hone the fundamentals, build strength and confidence, and continue challenging yourself through progressive modifications.

WHY PILATES?

FULL-BODY STRENGTH
Build strength throughout your entire body with an emphasis on control and stability.

CORE STRENGTH
Develop the deep core strength that supports movement throughout your practice and everyday life.

MOBILITY + FLEXIBILITY
Improve range of motion while building the strength to move with control.

BALANCE + POSTURE
Develop greater body awareness, stability and coordination.

INTENTIONAL MOVEMENT
Learn how your body moves and build greater connection between movement and breath.

A PRACTICE THAT GROWS WITH YOU
Continue progressing as your strength, confidence and experience develop.

Your first class checklist

01
Come Early

We’d love to say hello, answer your questions and introduce you to the Reformer before class begins. We’ll walk you through the basics so you can start class feeling ready to move.

02
Dress To Move

Wear comfortable, fitted athletic clothing that moves with you. You’ll be bending, stretching, twisting (and maybe discovering some new muscles), so choose something moveable.

04
Don’t Worry

New equipment, new movements, new vocabulary, it’s okay to not know it all. Your instructor will guide you through class and answer questions along the way.

03
Bring Grip Socks

Grip socks give you extra traction and stability on the Reformer, so you can focus on the movement and not on keeping your feet from slipping.
